In 2008 Watauga County accepted a bid from Lafave’s Construction for roofing services at the Historic Cove Creek School Gym. I was introduced to Mr. Joe Lafave within days of the bid opening by our Architect, Mr. Larry Greene. Mr. Lafave met with me at a pre­ construction meeting at which time he expressed a willingness to work with the Architect and Owner on the completion of a successful project. I am happy to report that Lafave’s Construction completed all work within the scope of the contract documents in a very satisfactory manner and I would strongly recommend his company to others.

Lafave’s Construction provided roofing services that included the demolition of an old asphalt shingled laminated trussed roof that had settled and deflected over time. Lafave’s design staff worked in conjunction with our Architect to devise a plan to retrofit a new standing seam metal roof onto the old structure. Additionally, the new roofing system was designed and installed in such a manner as to straighten the old building lines to produce a new finished appearance that was appropriate for the historic building.

Lafave’s crews mobilized to our rural site in Sugar Grove, North Carolina to begin construction. I was impressed by the organization in staging materials for use and the cleanliness of the worksite. The workmen assembled their product in a very craftsman like manner and their finished product exceeded our expectations.

Upon completion of the project Mr. Lafave quickly provided all closeout documents including the required legal forms and the Warranty Statement. I was contacted by the Project Manager to inquire if the County was satisfied with their service and to ask if there was anything else they needed to do. At that time I asked the Manager to price an additional section of roof that wasn’t included in the original bid. I received a modest Change Order Request the next day and work on the additional roofing was completed soon thereafter.

I am very pleased with the finished product that Lafave’s Construction provided as are others within the community, and I recommend the services of Lafave’s Construction to others that are contemplating the choice of a roofing contractor.

You would not believe how many times I’ve found myself making calls or sending emails to complain about the contractors that are working in our building. I don’t like doing that but I must make sure everyone in our plant is working safe, following our rules and expectations, and that they go home the same way they came in to our plant.

It’s not often that I get to send reports bragging about contractors, but fortunately that’s what I get to do today. Last week, a supervisor stopped me to brag on your crew. Then Thursday, our GM stopped me to say that he likes the way these guys clean up, rope off their areas, hang plastic, and they always have on their PPE.

When you have the GM complementing your crew, you’re doing something right. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you and say Thank You for the help.
